Surface parking and large vacant lots have greatly weakened our urban fabric. From downtown extending out to our city’s neighborhoods, these underutilized spaces continue to pose challenges for creating vibrant places and connected communities. Through the ReSurfaced initiative, we are exploring creative ways to pre-vitalize these vacant and underutilized spaces by creating low-cost investments that activate the space NOW rather than waiting for big, long-term developments to take shape.
Louisville: Culture and Opportunity is an infographic site featuring 50 reasons why Greater Louisville is the perfect place for businesses and talent to thrive. This is the newest project we’ve collaborated on for non-profit City Collaborative, second to Louisville Love.
Working with volunteers to map our urban tree canopy
In the Spring of 2013, during Mayor Fischer’s week of service, a group of dedicated volunteers came together to help map and collect data for all of downtown Louisville’s trees. Some of these volunteers came back and worked through the summer of 2013 to finish collecting data on location, size, planting environs, and health. City Collaborative’s mission is to make ideas come to life that transform and inspire the community. Some ideas may be big, others small, but each one has to have some level of positive impact on the region. Upon launching, we wanted to have something that fit that mold, and that is how Louisville Love came to be. It is the just first project of many, but we feel honored to open our doors with it as a special Valentine’s Day gift to Louisville.
